Feature Friday February 18, 2022

Then and now featuring Keemle Lake, just north of Nipigon, ON. The first photo shows the highway and railway grade on the south shore of the lake, likely in the early 1940s. Very visible in the background are the cliffs and ridges of the Pijitawabik Palisades.
The second was taken in October 2021 and features the former railway grade in more detail. This spot was just east of the railway station at McKirdy, which was located at Milepost 50.1 of the Canadian Northern Railway Nipigon Subdivision and at the time of the first photo, Canadian National Railways Dorion Subdivision (MP 99.4 of the later CN Kinghorn Subdivision). McKirdy Station was named after well-known local guide and businessman William McKirdy.
