Equipment

When the railway was completed in 1893, motive power consisted of four locomotives. Other locomotives were utilized on the line by Canadian Northern and Canadian National.

Road Number: 1

“Rogers”
Type: 0-4-0/4-4-0
Built: ?
Serial Number: N/A
Manufacturer: ?
42″ drivers

Notes:
Delivered in 1889; first engine on the line (likely from the Kingston & Pembroke Ry). Heavily damaged in an engine fire in January 1891 and required extensive repairs.
Wood Burner
Nicknamed “Black Auntie.” There was an image of a woman carved on the firebox door, and apparently the image resembled that of an African-Canadian woman who ran a brothel in Port Arthur named Julia Ann Roy. There is also some debate on the configuration of this locomotive. Some accounts state this was an 0-4-0, while an 1899 document and the photo below clearly show that it is a 4-4-0. Ended her career as a boiler for the CNoR roundhouse in Atikokan, ON.
