Dog River Station

Matawin River Bridge Dog River Station Ellis Station

Dog River was a station located near Sistonens Corners, ON at Milepost 29.5/29.1/0.3.

The station was created when Canadian National Railways began the process of rerouting the former Grand Trunk Pacific line in 1924. The eastward portion of the line, some 29 miles in length, would be abandoned and the new route would follow the former Canadian Northern line to Conmee Junction which would become Milepost 0 of the revised line. From 1924 to 1925, Dog River was the junction point between the old eastward route, now know as the the Crest Subdivision (Milepost 29.1) and the new route, known initially as the Graham Subdivision (Milepost 0.3), but changed to the Raith Subdivision in 1925 (it was changed back to the Graham Subdivision in 1931).

After the abandonment of the Crest Subdivision in 1925, part of the old line was used as a spur, with enough space for 100 cars. It’s capacity was reduced in subsequent years, so by 1945 it could only hold 22 cars. By the early 1960s it was no longer a station, but just a spur and it remained as such until 1990 when it was removed from use.
