National Transcontinental Railway Grant Subdivision
The National Transcontinental Railway Grant Subdivision began in Grant, Ontario and made its way 131.23 miles to Armstrong, Ontario.
Part of the National Transcontinental District 2, it was bounded on the east by the Hearst Subdivision and on the west by the Armstrong Subdivision. In 1924, the eastern divisional point was moved from Grant to Nakina following the construction of the Nakina Cut-off, which shortened the line by 19 miles. It was renamed to the Kowkash Subdivision and now joined the Pagwa Subdivision to the east (formerly the Hearst Subdivision) and the Caramat Subdivision to the south.
In 1964, the Kowkash Subdivision was merged with the Caramat Subdivision, creating one continuous line from Hornepayne, Ontario to Armstrong. Coupled with this and the abandonment of the Pagwa Subdivision in 1986, Nakina lost its status as divisional point.
