Minnikau Creek Culvert
Yonde Station Minnikau Creek Culvert Zarn Station
The Minnikau Creek Culvert is located east of Zarn Station at Milepost 175.5/146.6.
This culvert on the Minnikau Creek (originally the Tatasiti River) was constructed by the Carter-Halls-Aldinger Company of Winnipeg in 1919. It is classified as a 16-foot double reinforced concrete culvert. The culvert was part of a $89,299 contract awarded in 1918 that called for the replacement of previous wooden trestles with concrete structures. The same company built the Strawberry Creek Trestle, the Crystal River Trestle and the nearby Ty Lake Stream Tunnel.
Interestingly, the construction of this culvert resulted in the re-routing of the right of way. Clearly visible on Lidar imagery, approximately 1600 feet of line around the original trestle was abandoned and the grade shifted slightly south, likely to facilitate the construction of the culvert.
