Jellicoe was a divisional point on the Canadian Northern Railway and later Canadian National Railways from 1915 to 1960. From 1960 to 2005 it was a crew change point for trains running between Hornepayne and Thunder Bay.

Do you hike in the winter? For me, it isn’t my favourite time of the year to get out, enjoy the fresh air and explore, but since we get several months of it around here, you have to roll with what you get. At the west end of the pit, near Kinghorn Road, there was at one time a flag stop at Milepost 45 called the Sturgeon River Crossing.
