Martin Creek Bridge Ty Lake Stream Tunnel Alcona Station

The Ty Lake Stream Tunnel is located east of Alcona Station at Milepost 182/152.9.

Constructed in 1919 by the Carter-Halls-Aldinger Company of Winnipeg, the “stream tunnel” likely replaced an original wood trestle. The creek in area was rerouted and a 10 foot by 10 foot tunnel was bored through the solid rock to carry the waterway under the grade. The tunnel was part of a $89,299 contract awarded in 1918 that called for the replacement of previous wooden trestles with more permanent structures, such as the Crystal River Trestle and Minnikau Creek Culvert.
