Mattabi Station Valora Station W.O. Junction/Clarkdon Station
Valora Station was located near Silver Dollar, ON at Milepost 151.7/94.3/152.8/122.8.
According to records, a GTP Type “E” station was constructed at Valora in 1911. It is unknown what occurred to this original structure (possible loss by fire), but in 1929, CN built what is described as a “Special Station” here. The following details regarding the station are quoted in Canadian National’s Western Depots : The Country Stations in Western Canada by Charles Bohi. “These two depots [Valora and Umfreville] were similar to the Number 3 stations built by the National Transcontinental, Plan 100-181. Inside a 45’ 6 x 24’ building were located a 13’ x 10’ office, a 19’ x 10’ waiting room, and living quarters consisting of a kitchen, living room and three small bedrooms.” You can read more about the station from someone who worked there in 1970 here. There was a post office at Valora from 1964 to 1965.
Valora and its large siding remained a station on the line until it was abandoned in 1994.
