Tannin

Sowden Station Tannin Station Eva Lake Bridge

Tannin Station was located near Silver Dollar, ON at Milepost 139.1/81.5/140/110.1.

Tannin was situated just east of Seaman Lake and sported the typical GTP Type “E” building, which was erected in 1910 or 1911 and removed in 1963 or 1964 (sources are conflicted). Tannin lost its siding in 1966, but remained a station on the line until it was abandoned in 1994. There was a post office at Tannin from 1922 to 1943.

Interestingly, there was a flag stop located at the west switch of the siding (approximately MP 110.2) from 1944 to 1952. There were also two prominent flag stops west of Tannin on the English River/Mattawa Lake. “The Rock” at MP 113.5 was an unofficial stop, while “The Dock” at MP 114 was officially in use from 1952 to 1976.
