Superior Junction
Alcona Station Superior Junction Bidwell Station
Superior Junction, also known as Lake Superior Junction, was located near Sioux Lookout, ON at Milepost 188.8/130.9/189.4/159.5.
Situated on the south bank of the Marchington River, Superior Junction was where the Lake Superior Branch joined the National Transcontinental Railway. Since it was completed well before the NTR, particularly the portion east of Graham/Sioux Lookout, Superior Junction was the terminus of the line for many years. As such, it was home to a coal tower, water tank and wye. Once Graham became established as the divisional point in the area, the coal and water facilities were shifted there. However, Superior Junction retained its wye until 1930. There is no indication of what type of station was located there, though on timetables there was a telegraph office that was manned 24 hours a day, while records indicate that a station and office was constructed circa 1910 by JJ Vopni for $24,500. A 40 car/3900 foot spur was built in 1972 there, which became Spur GR 90 in 1981 and was in use until 1993. There was a post office at Superior Junction from 1909 to 1964.
Superior Junction remained a station on the line until it was abandoned in 1994. It remains a station on the CN Allanwater Subdivision, simply known as Superior.
