Mission Terminal
Mission Terminal Swing Bridge
The Grand Trunk Pacific Railway terminal was located on the south side of the Kaministiquia River adjacent to Fort William First Nation, ON at Milepost 0.
Also referred to as the “Mission Terminal,” it was home to the rail yard, roundhouse, coal tower and water tank. It was used until late 1923 when a new terminal and yard was constructed to the west at Neebing to consolidate both the Grand Trunk Pacific and Canadian Northern facilities.
A short distance to the east where the Mission River meets Lake Superior was the Grand Trunk Pacific Terminal elevator, which opened in 1910. Today, known as the Superior Terminal Grain Elevator, it is still in operation by Cargill and Parrish and Heimbecker.
