Dona Pit
Dog River Bridge Dona Pit Conmee Junction
The Dona Pit was a large quarry located just north of Dona Station and the Dog River Bridge at Milepost 27/28.1/26.9.
The pit first appears on timetables in 1915 when the line became part of the Canadian Government Railways and was one of three major pits which included Horne and Unaka. It is reported that the pit was a source of rock and gravel for extensive upgrades that were carried out on the line during that period, such as the infilling of a large trestle just west of the Flett Tunnel. It is not shown on timetables again until 1923, where it is listed as having a 47 car capacity (2087 feet) and shares the same junction with a 109 car (4500 feet) spur belonging to the Fort William Paper Company. With the abandonment of the Crest Subdivision in 1925, the pit was abandoned as well.
