Alcona
Martin Creek Bridge Alcona Station Superior Junction
Alcona Station was located near Sioux Lookout, ON at Milepost 185.2/127.7/186.2/156.3/156.1.
Even though it was the last station on the line before Superior Junction, Alcona had the distinction of being one of the two “A” named stations since the alphabetical pattern had to be restarted after Zarn (the other being Alba). In 1911 or 1913, a GTP Type “E” station was constructed here and between 1916 and 1918 so was a water tank. In 1923, the tank was shifted further east to Zarn, while the station building was sold in 1960. At some unknown time, a turning wye was installed just west of the station (clearly visible on Lidar imagery, it was “abandoned” by 1913, so likely used during construction). There was a post office at Alcona from 1916 to 1954.
While its siding was removed from use in 1987, Alcona remained a station on the line until it was abandoned in 1994.
